We all move on at some point, get some help from our members on what to buy next. Usually a monster V8 or second hand Lambo will suffice but usually the three letters M P S will be muttered......standard!

I owned a evo 8 mr a few years ago had it for 3 and half years and it was a cracking car. Used it everyday did over 30k miles in it in all weathers and spent plenty of money on it in the process. The main problem with them is the running costs. Very thirsty, expensive to insure, very regular services every 4.5k and if anything breaks then it's big money. Mine was modified quite a bit running 420 bhp and 400ft/lb of torque and was a very quick road car. If you have the funds to run one I would say do it as they are very capable cars. However for me and my situation my ep3 is perfect now as it costs me little to run, goes well enough with a few mods and handles well. Never been in a supercharged ep3 so cannot comment on them.

I've had both an ep3 and also an evo and the if I was to buy again then for me it would be the ep. £7k for example will buy you a good condition charged ep with all the right bits for track days (and probably still good as a daily). For the same money you're looking at either a really nice Evo 6 with good power or a lower grade 7 possibly an 8 if your lucky. The prices for good eps are still declining whereas Evo's are on the way up! I sold my 8 with FSH, 54k and 400/350 last year for £5.5k (needed diff light sorting), now I'd get in the region of £7k for it!!!

You also have to be aware as others have said about the running costs. My Evo was averaging 16mpg, and down under 10 when getting frisky. They seem quite highly strung at higher power as well, so most get forged rods at some stage, so if it hasn't got them cost that in too. Your ep3 is going to do 30mpg+ average and still in the 20's when having a play

If just track days then handling is king!! I was playing with evo's and subarus yesterday in my ek9, and only the cars from the specialists were beating it. I'm certainly no Hamilton, but even the tuned road cars couldn't get close. Even a good non charged ep properly set up will race <350bhp evo/scoobys all day long...and not break!!

Really appreciate all the feedback , almost decided on keeping the ep , spending some money on it . It's a great car and I do have fun on the track . I agree with the guys talking about driver ability , It's not all about power .

Some people would say I have just gone backwards.

I sold my E46 M3 convertible on Monday. I went from an Ep3 7 years ago into an E36 M3, then an FN2 last October to a E46 M3 and now back in an Ep3 (about 15 cars in between those!)

M3's are not as exciting as an Ep3 behind the wheel. They are in fact quite boring to drive, just like any other 3 series to drive until you press that loud pedal. You really have to give them their all if you want to have fun, whereas the Ep3 doesn't take as much to put a smile on my face.

I thinking charging an Ep3 would make much more financial sense than buying an evo. One of my mates owned an fQ300, it didn't feel that quick with the power going through 4 wheels. Another mate owned a 600hp evo 8 gsr. His words where "I'm never buying another evo" He claimed they where such a disappointed in all aspects. ( He had 3 in total)
