The largest Civic Type R club forum

Established in 2002 it brings together people from all over the world to discuss their one love of Type R's.

We all move on at some point, get some help from our members on what to buy next. Usually a monster V8 or second hand Lambo will suffice but usually the three letters M P S will be muttered......standard!

Had a quick search and couldn't find anything on focus st's. I'm seriously considering changing to blue oval again.

Has anyone made this change that can give some input? Thanks

i went from a supercharged ep3 to a standard 08 plate focus st 2 years ago

tuned it to over 320bhp, but, it will never be an RS

so i now own an ultimate green RS, imo , if your going get a focus then just jump ship straight to the mk2 RS

i got mine for 20k with lux 1, bluetooth usb 1 owner, 28000 miles

dont miss my civic one bit

Focus st = slower and less mpg. Might be more comfy?

I doubt they are slower in the majority or circumstances.

Comfortable, quick, cheap parts, handles well.

Poor mpg ( I averaged 23mpg over 33,000 miles), nose heavy.

I went from EP3 to ST3 to RS MP350.
Bought the ST in 2006 when Honda didn't have a Type-R on sale.
It's better as an all rounder but not as nimble as the EP3.
Fuel consumption was about 10% worse although for reasons I don't fully understand, I get much better consumption on the RS (31mpg average).
The Mk3 ST is another story again but you're better off dropping into focusstoc.com for detailed feedback.

Haven't got that much to play with. Looked at mk2 rs's as loved a a friends one but my budget is to small.

Standard yes. I've embarrassed a few already :) but modded there nicer to listen to, quicker in a straight line but bulshier round corners.

Tbh I don't like them.....biased opinion as I'm yet to drive one but st still looks more appealing IMO

Main reason I'm stuck on deciding is the fun factor the type r gives. But the urge to go back to a turbo and a ford the st fits the bill. It's only a weekend car so I'm in no rush to change but need to decided before a blow a chunk of money on the type r in April. :S

I know they drink more but Eco isn't really a bother. Yes very nose heavy due to its 2.5 Volvo lump!

I know the focus pretty well already tbh, know so many owners, a friend has his st3 running the 500bhp barrier from devil development.

The RS is a better focus in everyway and is love one but it's out if budget.

the ST is more superior to an EP3 by far

reason i changed my ep3 is there lookin quite dated now imo

there more comfier, nicer to drive, more toys/gadgets , and a simple remap will see you with over 260bhp, much easier to tune

even goin from a charged ep3 to a standard ST i thought it was a worthy upgrade

This is good to know, I sold my civic around 4 months ago, I'm currently looking for either a green or white RS with both Lux packs, bt, leather and the mp350 would be a massive bonus.

Id go for lux 1 as its got DAB which 2 hasnt, also the reversin camera on lux2 is prone to failure

Try RS Direct they have loads in stock

If I had the funds and a bigger garage I'd happily buy a escort cossy. Although I'd be torn between my all time fav ford (ford enthusiast) or a supra. But I'm really looking at focus st's and advise. I can't find anything with a turbo out there that compares for the same price range

You can pick up Imprezas for less than the cost of an ST.
If you are looking for luxuries/ gadgets- it's probably not the way to go.

Spent to much time repairing a friends bug eye and his old classic. They bore me tbh, not exiting to drive at all, I was adamant I'd have a Evo 9 but four wheel drive takes the buzz away in my opinion. Don't get me wrong I can drive a lot faster and take different lines without worrying but there's no........edge. Plus the missus would kill herself in one.

Went to look at a 58 plate st3 as a five door yesterday and was shocked ford left wind up windows in a pretty well spec car!

The 5 door was a bit of an afterthought on the ST.
The design is optimised for 3 doors.

Long time ago I had and Ep3 for 220k kilometers in[…]
