The largest Civic Type R club forum

Established in 2002 it brings together people from all over the world to discuss their one love of Type R's.

We all move on at some point, get some help from our members on what to buy next. Usually a monster V8 or second hand Lambo will suffice but usually the three letters M P S will be muttered......standard!

Tongue firmly wedged in cheek there.

I'd have a 6 cylinder petrol BMW if I did less miles.

I have an e36 M3 track/drift car as well as my modded ep3.

I'd take the M3 any day over the CTR. Whether it's stock vs stock or modified.

The bmw is a proper focused machine and does track, twisties, B roads and the shopping on a Saturday.

The CTR is good but it's not rwd.

i test a drove a e46 m3 yesterday, as i'm looking to buy one, and yes as all the other owners said, you won't look back

the engine is so strong and rev sooooo fast, it just feel very special and rewarding to drive fast, slow speed it's same as any other car

i own a 330ci, and it cannot compare to a m3, nor the 130i can compare to the m3, it's very different, the engine alone and driving feel is far superior, traction control off, give it some and it's really really fun

I have a 330ci at the moment but have since driven a e46 m3 and seem to spend all my spare time looking at m3 now......

Hi Sean!!! :-D

Best car for the money

If you keep looking, £7k will find you one other full specialist history, inspection 2 carried out and the subframe/rear floor repairs either complete or at least checked in full, and under 100k.

Absolutely the best motor iv owned - and you know the ones iv had have been good (460hp EK's, 300hp Supercharged Golfs, 205 turbo <- this comes close but lacks the comfort and practicality of the M3)

Only other cars at that price is consider would be an Audi S4, but M3 is some machine and better than my mates S4. I'm delighted with mine, best all rounder for the money.

The values of E46s have been dropping like stones.

The value of E36s are starting to plateau, but imo there were too many E46s made for them to hold their value.

They're starting to look pretty dated now, especially inside.

I've been stewing this over for at least the past 8 weeks. Not driven one yet as I'd probably impulse buy and regret it. Did an insurance quote yesterday and it came back £20 a year cheaper than my CTR @ £434 :vconf:

I have a budget of £8k and tbh they seems to be quiet a few decent ones out there around the 80k mileage with FSH.

Did the OP get round to buying an E46 M3?

Oh and are convertibles only for girls?

Would you be stripping your CTR or selling as is?

"if" I sold up, I'd strip it for definite.

If I was to have an M3, I reckon it would have to be the imola red, or the white. which are both holding their prices! and keeping them just out of my reach at the moment, hence why ive been looking at DC2's

Right got all my finances in place and was going to view one tomorrow in Aldershot..

However I joined M3cutters yesterday and started to have a really good in depth look in to the E46 M3. For me personally it has come to light that the M3 is not for me. It appears they are a bit of a money pit!

There's guys on there that have spent over 4k in only 2-3 years of ownership! I've probably spent around £300 on the CTR in 9 years that's on things I have HAD to sort not including residuals.

I'm just sooooo use to the bullet proof reliability of the 'H' badge, I can't be @rsed with crazy repair bills for..

VANOS issues
Gearbox issues (SMG)
Subframe issues
Diff issues
Rust issues

Looks like I'll be keeping my little baby for a while longer

Still want an E46 M3 though :roflmao:
