The NS1's are around the same price as the Federals.

Comments on which tyres you've used etc would be good.

I always thought the S03's were more expensive than the RE40's - obviously not.

Has anyone tried the Michelin's ?

Cheers mate,

I rotated mine when I got a puncture. The garage repaired my puncture for 3 quid and rotated my wheels for nowt! Bargain! It will be a while before I change my tyres but if I'm going to do it it'll be all 4 at once, I hate mixing tyres.

There are lots of tyres to choose from it seems, I'm sure some of the more "non-mainstream" brands are pretty good.

As I have stated before the Federal SS595's are supposed to be ace.

I currently have fairly new 215/40 F1 GSD 3's on the back and Potenza 040's on the front that will need replacing in a couple of months.

After looking at some of the comments about F1's on here I'm reluctant to fit them to the front, though would be nice to have a matched set.

I'll probably go for either Yokohama A539's or Toyo's.

If they feel good then I'll stick them on the back & wear out the F1's in record time

Any comments???

ill probably be corrected but im sure the 215 is for a rim protection as its wider than 205.
im sure!
you should always protect your rim!!!

Those Falkens look cool - where have you heard the good news about them Stu?

It was the Federal's I'd heard good things about.

Designed by Bridgestone & Dunlop and made by Bridgestone for Federal.

They are trying to crack the European market so are selling them at intentionally low prices.

Here's some more info.

http://www.federaltire.com.tw/usa/pcrss595/ss595.html

And here's the TVTC test report against 3 of it's rivals.

Hope this helps?

Them federals look quite good as well. Ive also heard there suppose to be a pretty good tyre. Is it worth trying them over Toyo's though?? ;)

Just to say about the width of the tyres:

Some 205 tyres actually have wider tread than 215's!!
The 205/215 is the measurement at the WHEEL - some then bulge out, some in.
The manufacturers websites should have also have the TREAD width stated.

It can't hurt can it? The independent reviews say they are great and at £55.00 per corner there not really expensive either.

If I was up for changing now I'd whack a set of 4 on but I've got about a 8mm all round left! Damn I'm not driving it hard enough! 8)

The major difference is tread in contact with the road, extra 10mm, however, as someone has stated not all 215's are 215mm, can range from 210-220mm according to manufacturer and tyre. Same goes for all profiles.

The other point is that 205/45's are not as plentiful as 215/40's, 215's offer a greater selection of brands.

Try this link, it's a mine of info;

You can add Bridgestone RE050's as well - out in June'03 in 205/45.
I've got conformation that Pilot Sport 2's will not be in 205/45 - shame.

I have a full set of P-Zero Assimetricos on my CTR and they are very different to the Potenzas. They feel a lot softer and smoother. Much quieter also and they grip like buggery once warm.

It has reduced that sure footed feel the car has on the original tyres but I would definately rate them.

It has also reduced tramlining slightly but I guess that is to be expected with softer tirewalls.

One thing I would say is that I bought them because my brother runs them on his Elise and they feel amazing on that car, but I am thinking the extra weight of the CTR has a negative effect on the tire so I am slightly disappointed. Maybe I just need to get used to them.

I contacted Toyo a few days ago to see if they had plans to do the Proxes T1's in 205/45/R17 and I got this reply

Jon.

We have no plans to produce a 205/45R17 in the "T1-S" but are possibly
looking to produce it in the next generation tyre sometime in the future.

They have them in stock at 55 quid a corner I think in 215/40/17 8)

Have you read the reviews I posted the links for? They look smart and by all accounts perform as well as they look.
