Burning Rubber!

Right, I know this might be a super annoying thread but I still have a few mm left on my Hankook Ventus evo v12...

I've got various people telling me one thing and others a different thing and reading all the review sites and forums has led me to be inconclusive
Especially my manager at work seems to be f1>re050a as he has had both on his Audi and reckons the pots wear quicker.
And just told me you will see when I was adamant the re050a is recommended.. that they will wear quickly and be bad.

So my tyre choice seems to have boiled down to these 2 on the ep3 civic type r:

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 205/45 R17 Y (88) £96.28 per tyre atm.

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A 205/45 R17 W (88) £99.52 fitted per tyre atm.
http://www.blackcircles.com/catalogue/b ... e=33705369

1.) Tyre longevity - I am correct to assume on everyday roads and mixed driving styles the Potenzas should last longer?
2.) I know they are regarded as old design etc, but are the RE050A a friendly tyre for the ep3 and thus is better than the average reviews make them seem to be ?
3.) Am I mad for choosing the pots when they are dearer than the f1s :Music:
4.) I live in Bristol so the roads I drive mostly are not the greatest, some motorway blasts, the occasional bit more spirited driving.
5.) Was tempted to go for 215/45/17 but my brother in law reckons stick with 205/45/17 but XL - reinforced.

It would be nice if you could vote which ones would you go for. Thank You kindly.

I used RE050a's for both road and track and couldn't fault them.
The Goodyear's aren't a bad tyre either. A lot of it is down to preference. Potenza's have a really stiff construction. Eagle F1's aren't so much so it changes the feel. Whether you'll like it or not, there's only one way to find out. Both will be an improvement over the Hankooks.

Had the goodyears before on my ep3 found they gripped Well in wet and dry weather but lacked a lot of feel. Could feel the sidewall rolling over under hard cornering. Out of the 2 I would go for the re050 as the ep3 doesn't have a lot of feel in the steering anyway and to lose more of it with squidgy sidewalls just makes the car feel crap. For what it's worth I went with Yokohama ad08r and they are great. Dry grip is superb and hang on pretty well in the wet too when I have had to use my car in those conditions.
