I've been thinking about getting the Evo8 wheels for my EP3. Is the 215/45/17 considered to be stretched on 8inch wheel? The 225/45/17 side wall looks huuuuuuge. Any one know how much taller it is than a 205/45/17.

205/45 side wall is 92.55mm
215/45 96.75mm
225/45 101.25mm
235/40 94mm
The 235/40 will be closest in sidewall height, but you'll have zero stretch on the tyre. Run a bigger risk catching on the arches.

Nice one. I'm trying to gather enough information to get this done right. Would you say the 215 on the 8" is a bit of a stretch? Ive read I'd have to have the arches rolled as I'm on ABP springs with camber bolts and arms and TDI North FRSU. Are they likely to catch on anything else. Any also you seem to be in the know would you think the 235 is a bit over kill on a standard power EP3. Is that extra bit of width likely to slow me down?

I don't think 235/40 would be over kill. There's less choice and availability in that tyre as it isn't a common size, although there's good choice in that size with track tyres. But they'll be more expensive than the other sizes.
I don't think the 215 will be much of a stretch. If anything the slight stretch will reduce the side all height slightly.

Yeah the pictures with the 215/45 on the 8" look similar to the 205/45 on standard wheels. I want gains from doing it rather than looks but I obviously don't want a tall side wall or worse handling than standard

225/45 does have a much better choice of tyre as well your right.
