The time has come for some new front tyres, it currently has 205/45 fitted all round but was wondering whether it would be fine to go 215/45 as they are cheaper and run the two different sizes until the rears are worn out
Thanks for any help in advance

I run 215 45 17 no problem, speedo over-reads slightly but no big deal.
As long as its the same size tyres on the same axle that will be fine.

It's fine providing they are the same size on the same axle. Like you can't run a 215 45 on the right front and a 205 45 on the left front.

It's because the rolling radius of the tyre is different.
Hope that makes sense

If you are going to a wider size why not do a 40 instead of 45 to be a bit closer to the stock rolling radius ?

Try and keep a bit of comfort in the sidewall is the main reason. The 40 will give sharper steering but will also feel more bumps in the road, and with the stock springs being quite crashy as they are it's probably best not to go down to 40. That said if you run aftermarket progressive springs no reason why it wouldn't be an advantage to go for a 40 profile.
