Hi all, I've just dropped of my type r at honda in Derby to get the valves done. I'm slightly concerned that they might con me and not do it as I've read a few stories on honda not actually adjusting them and just checking them by a computer! I did think it was all manual checks. Il be picking it back up tomorrow night. Is there any way I could tell it's actually been done?
Cheers kurt

Ask to go early before they have finished the service so you can have a look at the engine without its rocker cover.

Even easier to tell if you put a small piece of tape on the back of the rocker cover and if its still there when you collect the car you will no they have not touched it.

Once they have 'checked' the clearances with a feeler gauge it only takes about 15 minutes to clean the 2 contact areas where the old gasket was and fit the new with some Hondabond. You should call them and ask that you can see your engine with the rocker cover off.

No problem, we are here to help in anyway we can. To be honest it took me until 3 years ago to find an awesome independent specialist that I trust to work on my cars and now I can watch as my car is worked on if I want.

Right lads, I got the car back and all seems ok, fully cleaned and hoovered and looks like all work done. Only concern is they used 0-20w shell helix fully synthetic and when questioned as the viscosity seemed low, he assured me that's the best oil for it! Will it be ok with that oil?
Cheers

Cheers mate. You've been great! I know they did the valves as the managed to knock some paint that was already flaking off the rocker cover so now need to somehow get that done :(

Maybe time to get yourself a custom rocker cover, the original red finish usually starts to flake off on the left hand side on most Type R's.

Cheers for the link too, piece of mind. I paid extra to get the fully synthetic, tbh I don't really rag it much so it will hopefully be ok.
