Now - looking at the relay terminals, the white/red from the car plug (constant live with headlights ON) goes to pin85 and also the dipped beam on the n/s headlight. The other side of the dipped beam bulb goes to earth. The o/s dipped beam is white/red from the cars original plug, connect this to the dipped bulb and the other side of the bulb to an earth.

Pin30 on the relay needs to be a 12v constant live from the battery with a 15amp in-line fuse.

Pin86 on the relay needs to go to earth.

Pin87 on the relay needs to have 2 wires coming from it, each of which going to one side of both main beam bulbs (run a wire across the car from left to right to get to o/s main beam bulb terminal).

The yellow/red from the cars original headlight plugs are NOT USED at all !

So looking at the n/s wiring, the red/blue from the cars original headlight plug goes to the other side of the main beam bulb - this is a switched earth on main beam. This is where the confusion has developed from

Hope this helps.

Mr B will put a drawing up later - we're going to fit my carbon bonnet now :P
This worked for me. The only piece of missing information is that the other side of the high beam bulb for both N/S and O/S should be connected to the red/blue wire from the original plug.

Is this a safe way of doing the conversion, or will it overload the wiring, especially if you are running uprated bulbs?
Don't fancy my loom going into meltdown!

My thoughts exactly

The standard wiring is rated to carry 2 x 55w bulbs and not much more - that's why I introduced a relay so that the load for all 4 lights is supported by that circuit.

Has anyone wired up their new lights this way and come across any problems?

mr bilko! wrote:As mini posted, look at the drawing but ignore the way I originally wired up the relay on it. Now substitute the wires as per mini Bs post as that is exactly how my Morettes are wired.

Just a thought, you've replaced the blown fuses haven't you?

Pm me with your phone number and I'll talk you through it if you're still stuck.
civic_chris wrote:Just a thought this may be an expencive way around things but if you got the left and right hand side wiring looms for morrettes would this work, as fitting morrettes has the same effect as fitting facelift lights as they both have seperate dip and mains.

chris

Has anyone looked into the morrette wiring loom answer to this?????

Ok, i have read this thred back to front.... physical work on my car im ok with but i have never played with the electrics... now lets be honest the lights on the pre-facelift suck compared to the new ones can someone who has done this with some before and after pics of the wiring and post here as i dont want to balls this up...and what is everybody on about relays etc??? can someone post a equipment/tools list as well.

I apprciate that a lot of people have put time and effort into their electrical diagrams but i havent done electrical diagrams since I was 14!!

Sorry to be a whiney girl

Following this guide here: http://www.civictype-r.co.uk/forum/view ... 7#p1925267

Didnt use a relay though as it's not needed IMO

i couldnt find parts needed, connectors for indicators and full beam bulb holders from scrappy so what i done was bought some bits from halfords to wire it all up. didnt use a relay, just split the possitive feed (red/yellow cable) to the (+) on each full beam and dipped beam bulbs, then the original switchable earth from full beam (red/ blue cable) to the (-) on the full beam and ran a permanent earth to the (-) of the dipped beam to stop them going out when full beam is selected, so taped up the red and white cable as it wasnt needed

I got mini spade connectors and some 8amp wire and a cripming tool/wire strippers from halfords and bullet connectors to join and extend wires. put the mini spade connectors on the pins of the hb3 full beam bulb and the indicators then taped them up to water seal them and keep the cables from coming off.

On the last pics, you can see all i need to do at that stage is twist-fit all the bulb holders into the lights and plug the HID cableing in, with the kit, the wiring for the (+) and (-) are spade connectors so thats why i have spades on the end of my cableing from my split live and perm earth :)

was all quite easy really

Im stuck! Any help will be apprieciated.
