Basically i've changed the front and rear speakers for these :

and my mate gave me his old headunit :

I thought the sound quality would improve but it sounds crap and when turned up loud it just bottoms out and sounds awful. Is there anyway of making it sound better? would a 4 channel amp help?

Sounds like (excuse the pun) that you might need to sound proof the doors a bit. Will be amazed how good speakers sound if this is done properly. You can have top speakers sounds rubbish if not the doors aren't sound proofed.
