Hi,

Not been on here for years since I defected to BMW.

My first CTR (2003 plate) went to my Dad where it was still going strong to 140K miles until yesterday when the water pump died and the engine got a bit hot (including the temperature gauge heading towards the red and steam)! Dad waited for the engine to cool, filled it up with water and carefully drove it the nearby dealer where they've diagnosed a dead water pump. The problem is that after 14-years the bolts for the water pump have rusted and they reckon it may not be feasible to get them out without killing the engine. The dealer comment is that then they're in new engine territory which is not worth it.

First question - any thoughts on how to get the water pump out?

I sold my 05 Premier in 2012 and it remains the one car I really regret selling. I've got an M2 now which is fantastic, but doesn't have the same connection that the CTR has and I always figured that one day I'd buy one again.

So, second question, would a rebuild be feasible or would the block be dead? What's the cost of a rebuild, roughly?

Cheers

P.S. Note that some of the regulars like EvoStu are still around from years back! Wow! :)

Agree with the above.
Judicious use of heat or drill them out if necessary.

Thanks. Dad's going to move the car from the main dealer to a smaller specialist to cut down on labour costs.

Must admit that part of me wanted a rebuild as I'd be interested in some carefully selected mods. From searching around the forum, Lewisgames Civic impressed me (OEM look with some nice engine mods to keep the NA roots and choice suspension upgrades):

I maybe new to this forum (breaking a ep3 for a k swap)

But I've spent 30 yrs spannering with stubborn bolts and 16 yrs on honda engines. I've never had a bolt shear on me on a honda.
You need to find a decent mechanic, (may well be it's not the water pump, unless the impeller falls off which I cannot see happening, the pump seizes which you would definitely know about lol)

previous poster hits the nail on the head.
