I shouldn't tempt myself but...

This seems a great mod and not too costly for the returns compared to N/A tuning.

Tegiwa can get Honda made 5.1 final drive for £430, which should give about 8% more torque to the wheels.

How much will it cost do you reckon to fit, and is it a hard job?

mate don't pay £430 from Tegiwa unless you absolutely want brand new for some reason. I bought my 4.7 JDM EP3 FD for £75, which granted was a decent price... but you can get an FN2 5.1 for much cheaper than Tegiwa. Here's one for £200, or make an offer on EBAY. I'd offer him £100 or £150. If I was getting mine changed over soon i'd sell you mine for even cheaper, and my FN2 has only 32k miles on it.

As for labour, i'm not absolutely sure but it;s opening the gearbox, so a similar price to fitting a new clutch, perhaps a bit more. I did ask grinspeed but I can't remember. My mechanics labour rate is only £40 inc VAT so its not too bad. I will be fitting a new clutch for my supercharger anyway.

Also consider 5.4 which is a more extreme option, you'll find info on 5.1 vs 5.4 if you search google. putting higher FDs on NA cars is not something I have experience or knowledge of, but I understand the purpose. If you don't mind changing gears more and have good tyres then i'd imagine it;s going accelerate pretty quickly. i'd definitely get longer 6th gear though

I can recommend Stevie at Grinspeed, he recently put a 5:4 FD, long 6th gear and a MFactory LSD with race pack upgrade on my charged CTR and it has made the car so quick.

Here is a short vid on track the other day, that's my mate's supercharged Lotus Exige.....

Get yourself the Honda manual, can be had online.

If you're feeling adventurous and brave, give it a go, at least the manual will give you exploded views of where parts should be. If you've got to use the car daily though and going to put yourself under time constraints, probably best to get someone else to do it.

Even taking out the gearbox would be epic for me... no time for that.

Will budget £300 for fitting maybe more.

Technically shouldnt spend any more... but you only live once.

5.4 FD hikes up the price, and maybe too uch for the road in terms of noise and grip management in 1st and 2nd.

If I can get 2nd hand 5.1 FD then that seems like a bargain... thanks for the tip nub!

Put it this way, in my charged EP3 I was hitting 120mph down the Wellington Straight at Silverstone, put in a 5:4fd and it now hits 130mph down the same straight

Is that as simple as it feeling like another 16 bhp plus?
It's more the torque not bhp, as its related more to pulling power.

For example if your car as 150 ft/lbs, switch to 5.1 FD, the car would need the equivalent to 162 ft/lbs to pull the same as if it was still using the OEM final drive.

Other benefits are staying high up the Rev range. If your cammed and got a high rev limit. @ 8600 rpm upshift you'll stay in A good power band. Same with braking and down shifting. You can stay in Vtec.
