NOISE FROM AUX BELT

As the title states i have a fuuny metalic kind of noise from my aux belt. Its only there for about 5 mins after i start the car form cold. Once the car has warmed up, the noise goes away.
So really all i want to know is, is this something to be bothered about or should i just ignore it? I got the car booked in at TDi north next month for its 84k service so will mention to them aswell.
Any advice would be great. thanks,
Mark

I have exactly the same thing, metalic rattle noise starts about 5 secs after first starting the car from cold and seams to dissapear as the car reaches operating temp, runs perfectly fine after that. Asked a Honda technician if he had any ideas or encountered the same problem, just told me to do an oil change, did the change and noise still there! Friend of mine whos a mechanic thinks it may be a chain tensioner problem, which has got me paranoid about it the chain jumping a tooth an ruining the valves!

Im sure i get a new noise on my car everyweek. Then it will go away and then appear again when the last noise has gone.
Just ignore them all now

That sounds way off mate, i can tell its coming from the aux belt and not the timing chain or tensioners. Plus the tesioners are hydraulic so why would they make a metalic rattly noise, and only from cold? If you didi an oil change, and have never run your car really low on oil etc etc why would they be fcuked? I had my valve clearence done at TDi north less than 8k ago and all was fine then.
My problem has really only cropped up since the clod weather turned up, and goes after about 5 mins.

It was a suggestion by a mate of mine, not a diagnosis. He just said that it could be an issue with the tensioner not operating properly and the chain being a little slack. I also had my valve clearances checked with Honda at the end of august and they were supposedly fine.
I only suggested they might be the same problem as like yours, mettalic noise only happens when starting from cold, it disappears after the engine has warmed, its deffinately from the belts/pulleys/timing chain side and it runs normally.

Sound like Chewbacca by any chance? It should and lots of cars had/have it.
I was quoted £190 odd to fix it. It's just a slightly annoying noise, nothing is being damaged.

Its a kind of tinny. Metalic sound as the rollers and belt move round. Seems to go after a few mins when the car reaches op temp. Read about that chewbacca noise before and dont think its that.
Iam not really bothered about it that much, it just pi**es me off and sounds rough. Thanks for the reply mate, iam sure it aint damaging owt.

Damn, same here... a quiet metalic sound when cold. It changes tones when reving. I thought I started to hear it after taking off my bonnet sound deadening. 2003, only 25k miles... so I don't think it's something serious. With a rattle noise of the plastic i-VTEC cover, it's my morning orchestra. Damn, I wish I had a stereo. Forgive my English.

Its not the usual whine from the aux belt tensioner, (which ive also had got!). Luckily the car isnt being driven much at the moment as im getting the train in to work.

Interesting. I think I have a similar problem, dont have a clue where it is coming from though which is well annoying bacause I dont want to get mugged off by Honda in a couple of weeks when I send it in for a service. It is only there when cold, sometimes makes quite a loud sound for a second or so when I start it (espcially in cold weather) and then when I let go of the accelerator it sounds like something is unwinding as per the engine revs slowing down.
Its been happening since iv had the car- when I test drove it the engine was warm so it didnt make the sound. Does my problem sound similar to anyone elses? Cheers.

Thats pretty much what mine is like. Mine only really does it when its cold and damp, hasnt done it since its been frozen in the morning. Maybe its just a bit of moisture on the belt that goes after the car has reached op temp. Gunna mention it when my car goes in for a service next month.

Hmmm, its really annoying. Its only done a bit over 30k, shouldnt be making noises like that. Good to hear that other peoples are doing it as well and dont think it is anything to serious. Im about to put 4 new tyres, a main dealer service and an mot. Cant really afford much else!
Will let you know what Honda say as soon as it goes in.

Mine seems to be louder now in the frozen weather but its not consistent at all, sometimes it is quiet. You might be onto something with your moisture theory.

Ignore! (:

I get something similar aswel, when i start the car up cold it idles at around 2k rpm and you can hear like a whining noise almost like a supercharge sound if you get me, but as the car warms up the idle revs drop to about 1k and the noise goes! don't know if this is normal, doesn't realy bother me though to be honest!

The 'supercharger' whine is very common, its the bearing on the Aux belt tensioner, mines be making that noise for about 18 months.
