I have a weird squelching noise coming from the passenger side of the engine, quite loud with the hood open. Goes when it's warm though. sounded like its was right by the fuse box but there's no moving parts is there?

Sounds like the bearing in the top pulley is worn/dry

No, mine doesnt. It sounds like something needs oiling. When its cold and I let go of the throttle I can hear this noise unwinding as the revs drop. I cant feel it at all, just hear it and when its warm it goes away.

Im getting a service done maybe next week, if not the week after. Will try to get them to fix it and a reasonable Honda main dealer price

My mechanic says the noise is the gearbox when it is cold. Is anyone else's gearbox loud when cold?

they all do it its just the bearing whining people change that belt but never change the tensioner put a new belt and tensioner on mine and its sweet the whining is jus wear in the bearing i'd be more worryed if it was a scratching noise that would mean the bearings in the tensioner have lost all there grease and are starting 2 fail

Well surely the acid test is to get a 14mm socket on the tensioner bolt and turn it to get the pressure off and slip the belt off. Start the car and see if it does it then. If you need to change the part it is within the realms of most people who know which way a bolt turns to loosen.

I have the same metalic ticky noise on cold starts, after reading various threads I'm not too concerned about it now. The car is running fine with plenty of oil so just something to bare in mind for the next service I guess

iv had pretty much the same noise on mine, and it sounds like it gets faster the higher up the revs you go, had a listen with a stephascope and it was the idle pulley which im having change tomoro so hopefully that will cure it, the bearings have gone in it

I have the "supercharger whine" on mine, recently its got louder. new belt and tensioner time then i think

I have another random noise though, On cold idle (2k) whilst walking round defrosting theres sometimes a mid range hum

anyone know what that is?

well had the pulley changed, yes the bearings had gone in it, but unfortunatly, that didnt cure the noise. to me it sounds like its coming from around the fuel rail, but i cant see what around there could make such a noise.

so what we need are the following..

-new aux/alternator belt
-new bearings for the tensioner pulley
-new bearings for the top/idle pulley

???

I dont have AC so i guess there are some diffrences on the part numbers? someone got them btw? hehe

Mine is going in to TDi north on wednesday for a service, told them bout the noise and the steering rack creak too. So they are going to have a look and see what can be done. Will post the findings when i get the car back.

The top pulley was a pretty common failure a few years back.
Mine was replaced under warranty.

im having my tappits checked tomoro, see if there out, if thats not it then god knows what it is, looks like itll be a new chain, and if i end up doing that and it doesnt fix it ill go mental, seariously.lol
