There was a commotion at Mercedes F1 headquarters this week with news that team executive director Toto Wolff has finally realised he has ‘a totally kickass name.’

‘Oh my God, I had never noticed before,’ Wolff is said to have shouted in his weird Terminator voice. ‘My name is, like, totally kickass. This is so cool. Get out of my way, I need to start roaming the city solving crimes. Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!’

Sources in Brackley say that, following his nominal revelation, the probably-deranged Austrian boss has started wearing a cape, humming his own ‘theme tune’ and shouting ‘super awesome!’ before smashing through a series of specially prepared plasterboard walls with his arms, legs and face.

‘We’re doing our best to ignore the whole thing but it’s getting pretty disruptive,’ admitted a team insider. ‘For example, if you don’t refer to his office as ‘The Citadel of Excellence’ he threatens to throw an actual wolf at you.’

In a troubling development, Merc F1 spies say Wolff has now commandeered a white board in the main engineering office to draw up an ‘action list’ of the following aspirations; ‘solve mysteries’, ‘record soft rock album’, ‘destroy BrawnMan’.

McLaren to use free Honda engines in 2015

McLaren will surely be Honda-powered in 2015, according to Auto Motor und Sport correspondent Michael Schmidt.

Reporting from Barcelona, he said McLaren has let a deadline pass whereby it could have extended its customer deal with Mercedes beyond next season.

"That can only mean Honda in 2015," said Schmidt.

Reportedly, the Japanese carmaker - having withdrawn from F1 amid the global financial crisis at the end of 2008 - will not charge McLaren for its turbo V6 engines.

Honda, however, will surely subsidise its development costs with one or two customer deals, and Sauber and Lotus are thought to have already expressed interest.

"We are studying (the idea of returning to F1) as seriously as possible," Honda president Takanobu Ito said recently.

Lotus could be on the move due to the apparently high price of staying with Renault in 2014 and beyond.

Auto Motor und Sport said Renault wants to charge its customers between EUR 20 and 23 million per season, while the Mercedes engine will cost 17-19 million.

Ferrari is reportedly offering the cheapest package, with the price tag between 15 and 17 million.

So much McLaren planning fail. They went from the fastest car last season, to crap aero and upside down front suspension this year, then only a single year running a Mercedes power unit for the new regs, then knowingly moving to an unknown engine for 2015.

You'd hope there's thinking behind it (test out new theories this year prior to 2014, then use 2014 to get knowledge from the Merc power unit) ... but from the outside it just looks like a massive fail.

Not defending them, but we did not get the F1 cars we have today with out trying new stuff. The aero stuff should be about bang on with all the tech they have. The rest can be forgiven to a degree.However it should be sorted by now. I think this tyres thing has given them all a curve ball. Diff teams diff degree of curve.

I'm hating this new forumula

there l purposely lapping several seconds of the pace, it's like chess at 200 mph, this race was worse than other since Pirelli messed up the tyre choices but still, it's all 95% tyre management

It throws up a decent race more often than not which to be fair is better than mostly dull lights to flag victories but still

f1 isn't about drivers complaining they Can't drive any slower to their team
