Well I have an ep3 on an 03 plate. And since the day I've bought it, the ammount of mileage I get is very bad.... Yesterday I put in £20 half tank with some redex and after 45 miles the petrol light came on... The person I bought the car from had an ond dx type civic in which he put a k20. He needed some parts for the engine hebput in his dx model so he took the air induction and the vtec solenoid of my civic engine.... I had these replaced when I bought the car.. But mileage is very bad. I do hit vtec but not much. Any ideas on how to improve????????

That IS bad!

What type of driving do you do - motorway, around town, stuck in lots of traffic, short journeys?

If you've had those parts replaced then that shouldn't be the cause.

I get easily 3 times your mileage driving carefully on the motorway and probably 120 miles around town/country roads with spirited driving.

Any plans to have it mapped? that would help as it could be over fuelling. do you get noticeable black exhaust smoke when you hit vtec?

My driving consists of town driving mainly stop start driving and sometimes on the dual carriageway. Mainly mixed type of driving.. Do you think I should change the spark plugs or something. Also ice been told to do a krypton check or so done on the car. But I don't get any black smoke coming out of my exhaust or anything like that. The induction kit I have on it is crap. It's like a £40 kit from eBay which the previous owne supplied. I spend upto £80 a week on petrol and only drive it 4-5 days a week..

Bluntcap.... I've filled the tank before to the top, and I'm very sure that the top half of the tank gives me much more miles than the second half.

Yea I thi k the same, but I f you fill to the brim then use until the light comes on.......fill up again and record the amount you put in and calculate that with the miles you got from the say 40-42 litres of fuel and you'll get your MPG

Or just fill up a specific amount of gallons as soon as the light comes on, then see how many you get before it's back on.

I did this the other day, petrol light came on round corner from garage, so put in 9 litres (2 gallons) and reset computer. Petrol light has come back on at 69.3 miles. This was 26miles motorway and the rest around town (3 cold starts in all). I don't think 34mpg is bad really. Was expecting alot less.
