AEM CAI sucked in lots of water today car cut out in the middle of a huge puddle, couldnt avoid it

Finally got it going after about 10 minutes of turning over feeding the throttle and was revving funny and kicked out alot of white smoke!

Will it be ok? It seems to be ok now, but is there long term effects? Im gutted

you may want to change the oil as a precaution

this cannot be a good thing, as above though, change oil asap as it will be full of water and still causing issues

Annoying thing is i have just done a change with castol edge and thats not cheap oil

Get a compression and a leakdown test done at a garage.

Engines do some funny things when trying to compress water.

If all is ok consider yourself extremely lucky could of been MUCH worse. This is a prime example of why I try to steer people clear of this induction kit when they ask the question. IMO yes the AEM is a good piece of kit however is it really worth all this??!!!!

I'm sure the sock would restrict performance as I cant see it been as free flowing as the filter when uncovered.

I think i am going to buy a sock now, whats the best place to get it? I have seen the Injen one on funky power, is that any good?

Changed the oil today was really thick and creamy. I havent given it any revs yet, going to go out tonight when weather calms down a bit, dont want a repeat :bad-words:

It might help against water spray, but going through a huge puddle with or without one will have the same result. The only way it could stop a huge puddle going through the filter is if it were 100% waterproof, in which case it would restrict air flow badly.

You have a CAI in the UK, it's the risk you take.

To the OP. At least it sounds like the engine didn't blow a conrod through the block. Hopefully you got away with it :thumbup:

This was the reason i didnt buy the AEM CAI, as the idea you could wreck the engine wasnt worth it for a few extra horses.

I don't get it , people buy a kit that's known to end the life of an engine , just cause you had to go through a puddle . Sometimes it's unavoidable I know but buying the kit isn't .

And then to fit something that might restrict the kit , just so you can be a little if any safer going through puddles ??!!!

The quest for more brake horse powers is crazy sometimes .
